Sedations can actually be used to make a number of treatments easier. In fact, we can even use dental sedation during a routine checkup. Sedation is also useful for patients who suffer from shaking, nausea, or vomiting or for patients with a sensitive gag reflex.
Still, there are several levels of sedation you can consider. For example, we might recommend mild sedation, which only requires taking a pill. Oral sedation will be enough to help you relax, but won’t put you to sleep. We could also recommend stronger forms of sedation, which make may you drowsy. Still, you should stay awake during your appointment. Laughing gas is an example of this moderate sedation. If you choose either of these types of sedation, you’ll need someone to drive you home. Deeper forms of sedation aren’t usually suggested unless you need a more serious treatment.
