The 2017 School year is just about back in session, and you have probably already prepared your child with the necessary school supplies and clothes, but is their smile ready for a successful school year? To aid your child in maintaining good attendance this year, you can help them out by keeping tooth decay and gum disease at bay. To assist you with this, our dentist, Dr. Gregory Dvorak, is happy to share three beneficial strategies for their oral health today.
#1 on the list: To promote optimum oral hygiene, make sure that your child is cleaning their smiles every day. As part of their school “supplies”, you can give them the best tools for their smiles. Take a moment to stock up on a soft-bristled toothbrush, a fluoride toothpaste, a dental flossing method they enjoy using, and an antibacterial or fluoride mouthwash carrying the American Dental Association Seal of Approval. This will make sure that their smile essentials are not only proven safe to use but do what they claim they will do.
#2 on the list: You can help them have the energy they need for a stellar performance by providing their bodies, teeth, and gums with the building blocks they need. Limit sodas and sugary drinks, and instead, pack their backpacks with water to encourage healthy levels of saliva production. Limit snacking on sugary or starchy foods devoid of nutrition by stocking the fridge (and their lunch packs) with slices of fruit, vegetables, dairy and lean meat to build strong chompers and promote healthy gums.
#3 on the list: To supplement their daily oral hygiene routine, remember to schedule dental cleanings and checkups with Dr. Gregory Dvorak every six months. We will remove tartar, and check for dental issues, and provide fluoride treatment or dental sealants as needed.
