Cosmetic Dental Restorations Sometimes Include a Porcelain Crown

Posted .

Here at New Prague Gentle Dental Care, our team of dental restoration specialists understand just how important your smile’s appearance is for the quality of your social interactions. For people suffering multiple cosmetic imperfections in their smile, Dr. Gregory Dvorak might recommend dental veneers.

For a single tooth, or one that lacks sufficient healthy tooth enamel to mount a dental veneer, he might recommend restoring it with a porcelain dental crown.

After examining the tooth to make sure there are no pre-existing tooth decay problems, he will numb the area with an injection of Novocain. Then he will use a drill to remove the entire tooth enamel layer. Next, he will make an impression of the abutment and any corresponding teeth in your bite pattern.

The impression will be sent to our off-site dental lab to a guide the technician while they craft your porcelain crown. In the interim, a hard, plastic, temporary crown will be secured over the abutment to protect it.

A member of our staff will call you back in for a follow-up appointment when the crown is ready. The temporary crown will be removed before your dentist will cement the porcelain crown directly onto the abutment.
