Are you afraid of the dental office, dentist, and every dental tool imaginable? If so, we have a way to send your dental fears running! With sedation dentistry, you will feel more and more comfortable in the hands of the dentist.
In the dental world today, there are many dental sedatives that will help you relax as you receive dental treatment. Even though there are many options available, there are two sedatives that are the most common, and those sedatives are:
• Oral Sedation: Oral sedation is a successful sedative that helps you relax in the dental chair. You generally take the pill about an hour prior to your appointment and the affects will take place by the time you get to our office. The sedative will make you feel calm and a bit drowsy. It can also make you fall asleep, but most patients remain awake throughout the treatment.
• Nitrous Oxide Sedation: Nitrous oxide sedation is a beneficial sedative that is inhaled through the nose and is also known as laughing gas. When you come into our office, the dentist will place a small mask over your nose and will ask you to deeply inhale for a few minutes. After the time has passed, you will begin to feel a bit tingly and light headed. You will most likely stay awake throughout the treatment, and the laughing gas will help you feel more calm and relaxed. After the treatment is over and your dentist removes the mask, the sedative will wear off quickly and you will be able to drive yourself home.
